We celebrated Dusty’s birthday last night, complete with a cook-out and a bonfire.
I haven’t been around a bonfire in literally years, and man, was it amazing!
Little did I know how cold the weather was going to get last night, so with the lack of socks and layers of clothing, I was doubly cold!
The bonfire did a GREAT job of warming me up, though. The only problem is that it never quite stayed big enough, leaving me cold on one side and hot on the other.
It would’ve been even better if we’d had marshmallows to roast.
The smell of bonfires is also great- something woodsy about it.
There’s also something quite spiritual about seeing the fire crackle in the night, the beacon of warmth and light for humanity in the cold. Maybe this is a connection to the days of tribal humanity and using the fire to offer things to the Gods.
