Worcestershire Update

16 Jan

Okay, I looked up the authoritative pronunciation:

It sounds like

“woo-ster-shir”

according to this link:

So I was close.

But the problem is that some people say things like “wor-CESTER-shire” and so on, which is where I was trying to make the clarification- it’s a quick, three-syllable pronunciation.

Yes, and apparently from some more I’ve read, you can pronounce the “shire” as “sheer” or “shy-er.” Language is confusing.

I had other people try to pronounce it like “war CHESTER shy-er” and such.
