Morning Star Chik’N Tender Treats: Filling and Snackable, All at Once

26 Jan

Well, I’ve done it again!

My fantastic and strange cooking brain has organized and put together another delicious meal. This one developed while I was at the grocery store. My intention was to buy pretzels, and somehow this happened instead.

The small town where I live carries barely any kind of vegetarian option. Thus, we’ve one and only one Morning Star option- the Chik’N Tenders.

To wit, there are four kinds of chicken I’ve encountered: Chik’N Nuggets, Chik’N Tenders, Chik’N Patties, and Chik’N Strips. The first three are all remarkably similar, the last one isn’t breaded like the others and substitutes better in the place of boiled chicken or chicken for say, sweet-and-sour chicken.

Anyway, doesn’t THIS look yummy?

What you need:

  • 1 pack of Morning Star Chik’N tenders
  • 1 pack of frozen hash browns/potato patties
  • 1/2 of a small tomato
  • 4 HEAPING Tablespoons of sour cream
  • 3 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 3 teaspoons of dill weed
  • 3 teaspoons of ranch dressing mix
  • extra dill weed and parsley for garnish
  • salt to taste

What you do:

  • Prepare the potato patties according to instruction
  • While they’re cooking, mix the sour cream, garlic powder, dill weed, and ranch dressing powder together
  • Prepare the chik’n tenders according to instructions
  • When the potato patties are done, spread the mixture on each of them
  • When the chik’n tenders are done, place one on each hash brown
  • Add tomatoes on top of the chicken
  • Add more sour cream as desired
  • Garnish with extra dill weed and parsley

Alternately, you can of course use actual chicken if you would prepare, or you can leave the chicken off entirely.

I will warn you that this is a very filling meal.

You could also try garnishing it with diced cucumbers in addition to the tomatoes.

Again, I was surprised that this dish turned out as well as it did since it was a spur-of-the-moment idea.

Isn’t it pretty? This may actually be a little too busy for a picture, but it really tastes great.

Happy eating, everyone!

Very good. I thought about it last night before I got home and was hoping there were some left for me. Yea !!! Had one as soon as I came in and it was just as good as the first bite. Would never have thought about using hash browns for this. Of course, I would have used bread.. But it was a good idea and was much better than being on toast or plain bread… Good job….

Probably an even better idea is to make a breakfast version using eggs and cheese and maybe sausage instead of the dinner version, which used chicken. I’m glad everyone enjoyed them.
