Tea Cakes! A Treat from Ms. Alice’s Wonderland

31 Jan

After mentioning Ms. Alice having made tea cakes, I ventured into some old cookbooks at my house to find the recipe that one of my family members had submited.

My cousin Julie is actually the one who submitted this recipe into the cookbook, which she made for her grandmother. It’s called, What’s Cookin’ with recipes coming from her grandmother, family, and friends.

What you need:

  • 1 cup of butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 2 Tablespoons of buttermilk

What you do:

  • Mix all ingredients and roll batter out. Cut into cookie shapes and bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350ΒΊ until done.

Isn’t that great? We used to eat these at Ms. Alice’s house all the time when I was a kid.

But,,,, I know that they will Not taste as good as Ms. Alice’s did…Momma Lay could make good tea cakes also; just in her later years she seldomly ever made them, but she made them frequently when I was a little girl…

Don’t worry too terribly much about it. You can’t help the lemon bar disaster…the ninja did it, not you. The tea cake recipe is remarkably easier.
